This report examines India’s existing building codes, green rating systems, climate finance frameworks, and carbon market mechanisms to identify opportunities for a unified buildings taxonomy. It proposes a classification system, performance indicators, and implementation framework that connect regulatory compliance, green certification, climate finance, and carbon market participation. By establishing India-specific benchmarks for operational and embodied carbon, the report aims to help mobilise investment and support the country’s transition towards an energy-efficient, low-carbon built environment aligned with its net-zero target.
