ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2026: Transforming Market for Energy Efficient Space Cooling in ASEAN

Date

Venue

PICC, Metro Manilla

Cooling demand is rising fast across ASEAN, and the air conditioners bought today will shape the region’s energy use and emissions for years. This session looks at how policy, regulation, finance and market measures can push buyers towards high-efficiency, climate-friendly air conditioners. Topics include harmonising standards and labelling, market readiness, and using public purchasing to create demand. The session will also officially launch the Green Public Procurement (GPP) Guidelines for Air Conditioners. The Guidelines are regional criteria that cover energy performance, refrigerant global warming potential, verification and lifecycle costing, so governments can buy better-performing, lower-emission cooling.

After the launch, a panel of policymakers, standards agencies and industry will discuss what is needed to transform the market. Speakers come from DEDE Thailand, Indonesia’s MEMR, the Philippine Department of Energy, ALCBT/GGGI, UNEP U4E and Daikin. The panel will cover:

  • how ready markets and regulations are
  • how GPP fits with minimum energy performance standards, labelling and refrigerant policies
  • where regional cooperation could speed up uptake of efficient cooling
