Low Carbon Buildings Training Program for Building Material Manufacturers in Cambodia
Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 12 March 2026 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in partnership with the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), organized the 5th Low Carbon Buildings (LCB) Training Program for building material manufacturers.
The one-day training was conducted under the Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) Project, which aims to support the transition toward low-carbon buildings in the region. The training was delivered entirely in the Khmer language, ensuring accessibility, inclusiveness, and effective knowledge transfer for local professionals in Cambodia. The event brought together around 30 participants from the building material manufacturing sector to strengthen their technical knowledge and understanding of energy-efficient and low-carbon building practices.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in a series of interactive technical sessions covering key topics such as Cambodia’s energy scenario, fundamentals of building energy efficiency, sustainable cooling strategies, building energy management, and financial and market mechanisms related to low-carbon buildings. The session also introduced LCB concepts such as embodied carbon in building materials, operational energy optimization, adaptive thermal comfort design strategies, and tools for planning and assessing low-carbon buildings.
To further support continuous learning, participants were provided with hard copies of the training modules and were introduced to the LCB training modules, available both in Khmer and English, publicly accessible for download on the ALCBT project website.
The training program aimed to raise awareness among building material manufacturers about their important role in reducing carbon emissions in the construction sector. By understanding the environmental impact of building materials and exploring opportunities for energy-efficient solutions, participants can contribute to the development of more sustainable buildings in Cambodia.
Through this training, participants enhanced their technical knowledge and gained insights into the economic and environmental benefits of low-carbon buildings. The program also provided a platform for networking and knowledge exchange among professionals working across the building sector.
This training is part of the broader LCB Training Program delivered by ITC under the ALCBT project, which seeks to build the capacity of professionals across the building industry and support Cambodia’s climate commitments, including the National Energy Efficiency Policy (NEEP) and the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

About ALCBT
The Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) Project is a five-year initiative (2023-2028) that seeks to reduce GHG emissions by catalyzing nationwide transitions towards low-carbon buildings in five Asian countries: Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The project is funded by the Government of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), and is implemented by a consortium led by GGGI, in partnership with the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE), Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), and HEAT GmbH.
In Cambodia, the project works in close collaboration with the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction (MLMUPC) as the government counterpart. The project will institutionalize a building carbon assessment tool, integrate it with national energy codes, and support the country’s climate targets outlined in the NEEP and NDCs.
