India’s building and construction sector stands at a critical juncture in its climate trajectory. This report focuses on life-cycle and embodied carbon associated with construction materials, particularly cement, steel, bricks, and aluminum, as these emissions remain largely absent from current policy frameworks. It builds directly on preceding analytical work under the ALCBT project in India, which addressed operational energy efficiency through building codes and broader low-carbon building frameworks, by extending the policy lens to encompass whole-life carbon accounting.
