Thai Professionals Gain Hands-on Experience in Assessing Building Lifecycle Carbon Emissions
Bangkok, Thailand, 10 May 2026 — Stakeholders from across Thailand’s building sector joined a workshop held by the Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) project to learn how to assess building lifecycle emissions using the Building Emission Assessment Tool (BEAT).
Developed by ALCBT, BEAT is a web-based platform that enables users to calculate embodied and operational carbon emissions throughout a building’s life cycle, helping them identify emission-reduction opportunities and make informed decisions.
Held at Chulalongkorn University, the workshop brought together 38 stakeholders, including government officials, building developers and owners, architects, designers, contractors, energy auditors, and energy service companies. Participants learned how to use BEAT, interpret its results, and apply the tool to practical building assessments.
The workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ capacity to support the planning and monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions in Thailand’s building sector.
“BEAT can support data-driven decision-making for more sustainable construction by helping stakeholders identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions. By incorporating both embodied and operational carbon assessments, stakeholders can make more informed decisions that support Thailand’s goal of net zero emissions,” said Piyawan Suwattanathum, ALCBT Senior Project Associate in Thailand.
BEAT was launched in June 2025. Since then, the platform has been used to assess carbon emissions and identify emission reduction opportunities in more than 300 buildings across the region.
The workshop forms part of the project’s efforts to strengthen technical capacity across Thailand’s building–sector value chain.
Since December 2025, nearly 300 Thai professionals have also participated in ALCBT’s series of Low-Carbon Building Transition Development Pathway courses. With additional sessions planned, the project aims to train 770 professionals by August 2027.

About ALCBT
The Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) project is a five-year initiative (2023-2028) that seeks to reduce GHG emissions by catalyzing nationwide transitions towards low-carbon buildings in five Asian countries: Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The project is implemented by a consortium led by GGGI, in partnership with the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE), Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), and HEAT GmbH. In Thailand, ALCBT works with public and private stakeholders to create a more sustainable pathway for the building value chain, focusing on reducing its growing carbon footprint by addressing barriers to energy efficiency adoption. It supports national commitment to reducing GHG emissions by up to 40% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
